Multifaceted Threats to the 2024 Paris Olympics

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games will be a global spectacle, drawing athletes from over 200 nations, attracting worldwide media coverage, and welcoming thousands of spectators. However, the high-profile and international nature of the event also makes it a prime target for those seeking to cause ideologically motivated harm, engage in criminal activities, or embarrass the host nation on the world stage.

Join us for an Intelligence Briefing with a panel of Insikt Group expert analysts and delve into the complex threat landscape of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Topics discussed will include:

  • Cybercrime: Cybercriminals will exploit the Olympics with ransomware and phishing scams targeting government, hospitality, transportation, logistics, and healthcare sectors.
  • Hacktivist Attacks: Hacktivists will likely disrupt in protest of support for Ukraine and Israel, focusing on DDoS, website defacements, and disguised ransomware. Some groups tied to Iran may be more effective.
  • Malign Influence Operations: State actors from Russia, Iran, and Azerbaijan will conduct propaganda and influence operations to target France, NATO, and Israel.
  • State-sponsored Cyber Operations: Direct disruption of the Olympic Games by state-sponsored threat actors is unlikely and will be restrained by France’s NATO membership. However, threat actors are likely to conduct espionage operations involving the Olympics, including opportunistically employing Olympic-themed lures or infrastructure to gather information about targets of interest.
  • Threats to Physical Security: Islamic State and al-Qaeda supporters are almost certainly plotting attacks against the Olympics, and ideological-driven protest movements will likely seek to disrupt the Games, but enhanced security will likely reduce risks.
